Maintenance and development of rail structures is essential for operating and providing quality infrastructure. On the downside, however, they are affecting the traffic by making temporary closures (capacity restrictions) necessary. While these can not be evaded in their entirety, their effects can be mitigated by providing precise information about them and coordinating their schedule, so as to always offer an alternative route or time.

Rail Freight Corridor Orient / East-Med is providing information about temporary capacity restrictions in a single document comprising an overview of all planned closures on its routes.

The document, which is in line with the Guidelines for Coordination / Publication of Planned Temporary Capacity Restrictions defined by RailNetEurope, comprises the following information about each capacity restriction:

  • section of routes concerned by works,
  • operational measures, such as partial or total closure of lines
  • timeframe
  • consequences on capacity
  • other e.g. re-routing options

Information is updated at least twice a year scheduled to the coordination meetings.
